How to play

Build a clean run from the landing up

The control is minimal. The craft comes from knowing when to use it.

Goal of a run

Travel as far as possible while completing current goals, rescuing llamas, collecting coins, and linking tricks. A run ends after a crash or when an obstacle stops Alto. Distance matters, but challenge progress unlocks new stages of the journey and gives each run a useful plan.

Controls

1

Press and hold

Touch and hold the screen to rotate backward while airborne.

2

Release

Stop holding early enough to bring the board parallel with the upcoming slope.

3

Use the terrain

Launch from hill crests, bounce on suitable surfaces, and approach grind lines with a stable angle.

Core mechanics

Clean tricks increase speed, and speed helps Alto clear wider gaps and escape pursuing elders. Grinding extends combinations, while proximity moves and backflips add variety. The scarf is a useful visual measure of a growing combo, but it is also a warning: the more you have built, the more a poor landing can cost.

Beginner habits

Advanced technique

Long combinations come from planning two terrain features ahead. Scan for a grind line that can follow a backflip, or a bounce that preserves momentum into a gap. During low visibility, use Alto's silhouette and the immediate snow contour instead of staring toward the horizon. Controlled restraint is faster than repeated restarts.

Common questions

Should I flip on every jump?

No. Small, steep landings often offer too little correction time. A clean neutral jump can preserve a valuable run.

How do I get more speed?

Land tricks cleanly and connect different moves. Momentum builds through successful action, not frantic input.
